In 2009 I went to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Antarctica. Originally I booked an 11-day trip to Antarctica only, but due to the fact that the ship wasn't ready my travel agency offered me another 19-day trip, which included The Falkland Islands and South Georgia. And oh, was I happy about that!!! I took this image of this couple of black-browed albatrosses on New Island (Falklands). It was a pretty large colony of bird (black-browed albatrosses, rockhopper penguins and emperor cormorants. The birds didn't mind the people at all and went on about their business.

6 commentsBetty-Lou: very nicely done behavioral capture of truly beautiful birds. My only nit would be to tone down the oof bird on the right of the image. Very nice as is. Richard
Great interaction, Betty-Lou. I like the subtle shading on the bird's heads.
Lovely imagem, reminds me of my trip in 2004. You did a wise thing, since we found that SG was the place we wouldn't like to have missed out on. ! I went in the non-digital age, so still have many slides from this species.
Very nice and intimate shot you have on your hands here, with great colors ! Well done !
Cheers, Hans
Thanks again for your comments.
Richard, I toned the bird on the right down as you suggested and this is the result.
Hans, I agree. I think SG is the crown jewel of a trip to the Antactic region. I was really lucky to get this 19-day cruise for the price of an 11-day cruise. Also we had great weather. We went ashore 25 times and we heard that a group that went 3 weeks earlier only went ashore 8 times and that was more midsummer. That trip was really one of my favorites, although my heart is in East-Africa. By the way: I see you come from The Hague. I was born there and now live in Badhoevedorp.
I like the intimate feeling of this one Betty-Lou. I like Richard's suggestion and the repost looks like a nice improvement to an already good image.
Betty ..this one is beautiful and the re-post even better. Those subtle shades and the painterly eyes ..makes this a fine piece of work
