Backlit fox

Here's another frame from Island Beach State Park. One of the few backlit shots that worked for me. Getting the right contrast between the lit and dark areas was pretty tricky. It had to be done in a short window when the sun was low and the direction of light had to be just right (not totally backlit). Luckily, I had a nice background for this one and the tail showing up in front of the fox was a nice addition.

1/500s, F/2.8, ISO 200, 90% of full frame.

Cheers,

Hisham.

You captured a fine moment. The large image is very nice. I might crop just a little off the right side.

Beautiful portrait Hisham, the light is gorgeous.  I would either include more canvas on the left if you have it, or crop in a bit from the right, there's a bit too much space there to my eye.

Lovely rich colors, Hisham.  I'm actually fine with the amount of space on the right, but if you can crop looser on the left as Thomas suggested, I think it would help a little.

The backlit glow in this fox's fir is wonderful, Hisham.  I think having that bit of tail catching the light is a neat addition. I'm fine with this as presented.

Hisham: I like the pose as is. My only minor suggestion would be to darken the out of focus foliage at the very bottom of the image. Richard

Hi Hisham!

It is best of the three you posted, a very fine shot! Love the glowing mane and like Mark said,

" I think having that bit of tail catching the light is a neat addition."

Hi Hisham,

This is a sweet, sweet shot. And it's a great reminder to all how wildlife photography - like all photography - is all about light! The hint of the tail is a perfect accent to an incredibly pleasing shot. My only incredibly trivial nit is that for my taste the fox is positioned perhaps just slightly too far to the left (and I am talking about a VERY small amount...obviously you want to leave a lot of room on the right for the fox to be looking into). Nicely done!

Thanks for sharing this one...cheers...

Brad

I really like this backlit image and I agree with Mark on the tip of the tail, which is also backlit. It caught my eye straight after I had looked at the fox itself. I thint it makes the image even more special.

The light is magical! I like the pose, the light in the eye and the single hair illuminated by the golden light. Excellent image.

Thanks all for commenting! I did have some space on the left so I cropped a little looser there as many of you suggested. I also drakened the OOF forground a tiny bit per Richard's comments.

Hisham: my favourite yet. Outstanding and a bunch of other superlatives. As others have said, that light is the stuff we all dream of and the highlit tail is a very, very cool addition. I think I prefer the repost slightly. Just spectacular.

The last comp is perfect...I was going to say slide him over as well...Howver don't make the level adjustment the darker accents the light better.devil

Simply an awesome portrait Hisham. One of the most beautiful red fox images I've seen in a long time.

Very well done devil
