This male waited until the evening of my last day at Falcon State Park to put in an appearance.  He stayed pretty much in the thicker growth but popped onto this popular perch, which was close to one of the feeders I put out.  This particular perch took a sharp left after what you see and went up straight in front of the bird's face, so I trimmed it electronically.

7Dii, 300mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, resting on a bean bag on picnic table if I recall correctly.  f/5.6, 1/1250, iso 800, aperture priority, center weighted average metering, no compensation.  Processed in LR5 and CS6.  Cropped mostly from the left to 4x5 aspect ratio, final size is 16.4MP.  Taken at 5:46 pm on March 3rd.

Thanks,

One of my favorite birds Dennis...just a beauty. Love the light on him and nice job keeping a somewhat busy BG from becoming distracting.

Love the muted maroon colors on the bird and the eye is extra sharp.

Great background ariound the bird -- your patience paid off on waiting for the bird to get to this perfect perch -- good job

Hi Dennis, you are producing some very nice subjects in 'habitat' like it, could afford to take a little off the top IMHO?

The bird looks terrific here Dennis, beautiful lighting.  I would try to tone down some of the brighter parts of the branches if you haven't already done so. devil
