Hi everyone! Here's another picture I got of that really territorial goose from my trip to BC with my dad and sister. He is chasing another goose away here that was just at the very edge of the picture on the left side, so I cropped this to a vertical instead.

This is my first picture of a goose where I caught its wings all the way up and I love that he was honking away so I got its mouth open, too. I also really liked the setting the geese were in that day.

I hope you like this one, too! Click on the picture to view the larger version!

Dad's Processing Notes:

Well, first note the "tripod mounted" part...a major victory for me enlightened as Josiah has been rather addicted to a monopod and I was so pleased he began to see the value in and get used to his tripod!

As far as work in post goes...

Adjustments to brightness and congrast, dodging, cropped to vertical from horizontal original (still full-frame vertical).

Hi Josiah, this ticks all of my boxes, a well executed/time image.

Love the POV, angle of the subject (flying towards you, slightly angled) and with the beak open & reflection, it has it all. Retaining a more 'open/wider' view also highlights/captures the environment too.

I would love to have this in my folders. devil

Excellent, Josiah. Detail, exposure and pose are all first rate. If this were mine, I'd crop the bottom off at the line of vegetation in the water. The vegetation and bright water above it disrupt what would otherwise be a wonderful reflection. To my eye, it looks like you have enough detail to crop further, at least for web presentation.

Wise decision to go for the vertical cropping. Like Steve, I love the POV as well, as the movement and the action ! Well see ! Best, Hans

Sweet action photo Josiah, I really like the low pov you chose also. These geese can be soooo territorial. I kinda agree with Dennis's cropping suggestion, it would be worth trying to see if it improves the image or not. Even if you went with a more square crop. Great timming on your part!  cool

Nice work on this one Josiah. Love the wing position, the environment the double reflection, the open bill and trailing water. I think Dennis has a good suggestion, but I also like it as posted because I sort of think the double reflection really extenuates his wings.

this is really excellent, Josiah.  I love the layers of habitat and the different colors of each layer.  I like the action, and the motion in the wings with the sharp body and head.  I like the comp very much as posted.
