Buried Stonefish

This is Synanceia horrida - the Estuarine Stonefish. You do NOT want to get stung by the venomous spines of one of these guys and they are a good reason to look very, very carefully before trying to get a lower angle on some other subject. This picture was taken at a dive site called The Zoo adjacent to the Wakatobi Dive Resort in Indonesia.

Unusual!  I like it a lot.  I especially like that there appears to be a bit of catch light in the bit of exposed eye.  Neat post.

linton,

I for one am glad you did not step on it.

Fabulously different image, greatly surprised you have had so few comments.

What an intriging image. Almost doesn't look like a fish. Very different from everything else!!

Absolutely disturbing image, Clinton! frown enlightened

Perfect comp and story-telling here, and nicely done on all the technical side as well. Very memorable image. Hey--I remembered it enough to go to NPN and open it up to show two different family members over a couple days, so I mean that sincerely! cool
