Mike Ramy and I passed this small Great Blue Heron rookery (4 or 5 nests in one tall pine) on a couple of days as we explored Florida's Ocklawaha river in his boat. This heron sure looked like it was quietly watching over it's nest. (5D3, 400mm f5.6, 1/1000s, f/10, iso 800)

Beautiful image showing the habitat. I love the Spanish moss, the nest and how the bird is slightly hidden.

Nicely composed environmental shot of the heron and its nest.

Gorgeous image, Mark. It's as much about the tree as the heron, but the heron adds a necessary touch. Well done.

Hi Mark,

From the images that have been posted from your trip--it looks like you guys had a great time. The heron framed with the Spanish moss makes for an ideal composition. The lighting and blue sky adds some color to the scene as well..........................Jim

Wonderful composition and positioning of the bird in the frame. A shame we do not have such great trees around here. Great work  , Hans
