Whistling Kite

5D3 500/f4 1.4X
ISO 800 f8 1/800

I've lost count of the number of times I've been about to press the shutter and a flock of waders or ducks has been flushed by a raptor. I've had a hide out at a local lake which is now drying quickly. I found a road-killed rabbit and put it out in front of the hide and within half an hour had 6 of these kites , 20 ravens and one Swamp Harrier.

cheers
Rob

What a beautiful bird Rob. Great details throughout and the bg is complimentary. The bit of leftovers adds a lot too. It sounds like the roadkill buffet worked out well for you. Great shot! :toast:

Such a wonderful pose, it seems like this one might be giving you payback for the food, as well as making up for scaring all the waders.

The feather details are great, Rob. The low angle works well and the background coordinates nicely.

Great idea using the road kill at the lake, sounds like it afforded some excellent opportunities Rob.

I like the pose and the layered BG, nice details/DOF.
