Sony A77
Minolta 200mm macro
ISO 3200, 1/100 @ f11

Extraction from an Atlas Moth wing. This really tested the technology of my camera/lens combo. Taken in the Scottsdale, AZ butterfly house where no tripods are allowed so this is hand held and at pretty close range. Despite the high ISO I was pretty pleased by the color and detail preservation. I find it very difficult to try to squeeze off a single shot and not get camera shake so I just rip off a series of shots in burst mode. At 12 FPS I usually get some keepers. All comments welcome.>=))>

I like the composition and the colors very much. There is some obvious grain (ISO 3200!!), but I think that in this case it actually works, as it blends perfectly with the texture on the moth's wing. :toast:

Bill, I like the colors and patterns in the wing. It is not easy to shoot handheld and often in the low light of the butterfly house. These giant moths are generally put in the dark places. This is nice for me. :toast:

A lovely, colorful, graphic view, Bill. The details show well in the larger version, especially in the "eye". I wonder if they'd let you use a monopod (and if that would be an improvement over your chosen technique, which looks to work well  )

The butterfly pavillion in Scottsdale is really cool. I spent an afternoon there overwelmed by the opportunities. You can use a monopod in the pavillion, which helps greatly. I think you did amazingly well for handholding this. That Atlas moth is incredible and I love this close-up. :toast:

This is my favourite of the two images, Bill. Wonderfully dynamic pattern and striking colour and texture, all beautifully composed. Excellent hh capture !!
