I found this nice flower box at the Fallon Hotel in Columbia. I liked the bright yellow against the weathered wood and the window.

Crop the top vertical boards and I really like it.

Preston:

I like these sorts of images, Adams used to prowl around the small and sleepy decaying towns of the West and SW and bring forth B£W versions similar to this with the rich wood textures of the rough board and batten construction of the era.

Thanks for sharing! Tom

We have these same flowers popping up on the central california coast right now. They bring such joy. Good composition. I thought there would be numerous other compositions here but none I tried are as good as this chosen one. I really like the texture of the wood and how it plays against the flowers and foliage. For my monitor I would underexpose this image just a tad to see how it looks and do the same with the yellow flowers. You may be able to get more definition out of those yellow petals.

Thanks for suggestions, gents.

Here's the re-worked image. Please let me know what you think.

I used a TK Super Lights mask which affected only the flowers and the brightest areas of the window panes. Here's how I did it: It's a neat trick...

1. Create the Super Lights mask (Curves or Levels)
2. Duplicate the layer created in step 1
3. Set the blending mode of the first layer to 'Screen'
4. Set the blending mode of the duplicate layer to 'Multiply'
5. Adjust each curve (levels) to suit.

The 2nd image is considerably better. I didn't agree with Jim's initial crop suggestion but now that I see it it really does improve the composition by simplifying it.

Crop works well. You might give it a bit of a CCW rotation? Nice old-time spring image.

Love it Preston. The great texture of the old wood the closed window and the bright daffodils are a great colorful touch speaking of days gone by and new days to come.

Preston,

Wonderful uplifting image.  It only needs curtains in the windows.  Great detail in the wood.  devil
