Paint-billed Crake

This was a pretty shy character that allowed us very few opportunities to capture an image. We had tried for almost an hour, unsuccessfully, to catch a shot of him from the road to the lodge. I then set up inside the lodge property on a path near where we had heard the bird, hoping to grab a chance at a shot. I got lucky when the bird came out from the thick vegetation and paused just a moment before jumping onto the path just below where I sat.

Chuck,
Charlie shared with us yesterday how much he enjoyed shooting with you on the Galapagos trip. This is simply a wonderful shot. I wonder how it would look with a horizontal crop. It seems a bit tight on the tail. :toast:

Looks like a very nervous bird that would be hard to get a shot of, so well done for getting this, agree a little tight on the left ,the bird looks really nicely posed with its inquisitive stare, on it's mossy stone, very nice piece of work.
