The Jagged Edge

A morning storm passes over Central Utah. Taken last May and overlooked till now. I like the light intensity and the jagged edge of the passing storm cloud.

Gary, I would crop the top third of this in a heartbeat. It makes the landscape stand out so much better, while still retaining the dramatic part of the sky.

Amazing layers of contrast and light Gary. I kinda like it as is. Moody and inspiring.

That is one ominous otherworldly sky. It is really disjointed with the rest of the scene in a good way...it stops you and brings you back to look closer. I like it.

I like Phil's crop thought...it really brings it in your face more...or overhead...you feel like you need to take shelter from this storm. I'm travelling, but on this monitor the foreground center hill is a bit bright...although it feels less so on the small image.

Sure looked stormy even in the thumb, then I read your description. There's some fine mimicry between the land and the sky and a very ominous feeling. I do wonder about some dodging and possibly processing for more contrast in the top 1/3rd of the sky.

Real nice light, drama and layering. I would be tempted to crop the top to a litte above the top center whiteish cloud (in other words, not a whole lot). Phil's idea also works, but I like the upper clouds and their mood factor. Very nice image, Mr. Phillips.

Very interesting layering in this photo! My eyes keep going back and forth between them. To me, this works perfect as it is with regard to cropping. And if you go for cropping, then I agree with Harleys cropping suggestion. I think those small clouds at the top add some nice interesting detail. A gorgeous shot, well done! Especially the almost square dark cloud in the middle is fascinating.

Incredible luminous light Gary, on the bluffs and hills; they seem to almost glow from an inner light. Wonderful tones throughout and love how the lines of the clouds complement those of the foreground. Stunning work as always.

I really like the impact of the contrasting tones in this image. The storm definitely feels menacing and contrasts nicely with the highlights in the landscape.

Hi Gary,

It such a great feeling to go back and find wonderful images like this hiding in the archives. The layers of light and moody darkness just look wonderful Gary, and this is so much energy to this capture.

I thin it looks perfect as is, and wonderful photography!!!!!!! :toast:

Classic b/w. Reminds me a bit of Guy Tal. Great catch!
