Marine Iguana, Floreana

Marine Iguana photographed on Floreana Island, Galapagos. I have just returned home after leading tours in Ecuador, Galapagos and Peru, that being the reason I have been absent from this forum the last couple of months. It was a lot of fun to have NPN members Charlie Vantassel and Chuck Gangas and their wives on the Galapagos tour. The Marine Iguana subspecies on Floreana Island is the brightest of any of this species. I have rarely seen this species with it's mouth open like this.

Eye level perspective, excellent textural detail, a great range of surprising colors and the reflective open mouth and tongue make this one a real keeper.

Hi Nate! Welcome back! This image is stunning in its detail and behavior. I like the monochromatic background and foreground offset but the wonderful colours of the iguana. The only possible thing I could think of for room for improvement MIGHT be less (or more) of the iguana's left front (camera right) leg showing? The bright green scales running off the prompt my eye to fight a bit from the main focus--that compelling expression and overall head area. Just a "reach" for taking it up 1/10th of a notch from its already outstanding overall appeal.
