Lichens are a symbiotic association of fungi with either cyanobacteria or green alga. They are also bio-indicators of air quality. Where the air is clean, they are abundant and are rare in areas where air quality has been degraded. These were photographed in northern Michigan. K10d, 300mm f4 (1/180 sec at f6.3, ISO 400). 40% crop, LM for Darks, Midtones, and Lights...............Jim

Not the most photogenic of subjects, but well taken and composed, nonetheless. A very solid image. :toast:

Hey Jim,
This is an excellent, text book image that gives interest to a common and overlooked subject.
Solid composition in all respects,

Jim: I especially appreciate the detail in the larger version and think this is a fine take on an unconventional subject. Well done.>=))>

Unique idea to completely isolate a branch with lichens on it. I like it, Jim. Probably more dof next time if conditions allow.
