Caterpillar Feet

This four inch long caterpillar was definitely the most bizarre and interesting i've ever seen. I found it during my recent assignment to the Peruvian Amazon, and it's fluorescent green wasn't hard to spot against the darker foliage. I struggled for a while with how to best to photograph it, and ended up preferring an intimate portrait that focused on it's bizarre features.

Cool and creative. Vibrant colors and awesome details. I don't care for the OOF section of the "perch" though.

Outstanding, Thomas. Like others have commented, the large oof gray llc detracts a little from the image, but the details, design, and pattern of the CP more than make up for it, and I do like how you got in close to show the detail. :toast:

The patterns pop out wonderfully, here Thomas. It's a neat and interesting point of view, with your emphasis on the graphic design.

Looks like you found a cool subject to photograph. It might be a saturniid moth larva. Comp and colors are fun to look at :toast: ...................Jim

Thanks for all the comments, and you're right Jim, after looking it up it's definitely a species of Saturniid moth. I agree with everyone about the OOF bottom left detracting from the image, and the only thing I could figure out to try is a square crop, which I actually kind of like.

Thomas, as an alternate to a square crop, how about taking about 1-% off the bottom, and 10% off the left (keeping all four pods in the image) thereby reducing the relative size of the oof gray area? Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion Scott. I'd say that is an improvement. Just wish i'd rotated the camera clockwise a bit before taking the shot!
