Waiting out the Storm

Yesterday, the snow storm began in the morning and finally let up early this morning. I loaded up the feeders several times during the storm as the areas birds came in to tank up in order to survive the night. This one was perched up in some branches waiting for a spot to open up at the feeder. The chips on the bird's beak, puffed feathers, and snow show the harsh conditions these animals face. K5 IIs 300mm f4 (1/320 sec at f6.3, ISO 640) levels, and TK's sharpening for the web plus rubber stamp to remove an orphaned branch on the upper right....................Jim

Very good image showing the harsh conditions that birds have to endure during the winter. The color, detail, and bg are excellent. I like the snowflakes on the bird's head and the motion blur of the falling snow. Very nicely done, Jim!

This tells a good story...or I should say a good story of cold and struggle
Nice job on this one Jim. Your SS was a great choice allowing some blur in the snow.

What makes this little one so appealing is the motion of the falling snow and the flakes that have landed on it's head. Those details along with the puffed feathers set the scene. Your description of it waiting for a window of opportunity at the feeder can almost be felt by the look of a bit of hesitancy yet determination in it's eye. Well done....Thanks for posting

Love the blur in the snow. Great choice of SS. The image really conveys a message and that message is it's COLD.

Brrrr...... That just feels cold. Very nice use of a shutter speed to show the snow streaks. Not wild about the twig running through the back of the bird.
