The American Shoveler glides along the lake constantly bringing in the water to filter out the good stuff.

A handome drake. Some minor problems: the whites are pretty hot, with considerable loss of detail. The composition has the bird a little higher in the frame, and a little unbalanced. And for some reason, they eye is a little soft, although the cheek is reasonably sharp. Yo might try pulling the whites down and a bit more selective sharpening on the eye. If you have hte pixels, recompose to give the bird a little more room to swim in to and a little less of the out of focus water in the foreground.

I see the Shovelers over here in Fort Worth doing the same thing. I have lots of images of them during this behavior. Some good, some not so good. I do agree with Jim about placement in the frame. The whites might be a little hot. Most of my "not so good" shots of this species are due to blown whites. I try to seriously underexpose in order to avoid this.
