Another Tree Sparrow

This is another American tree sparrow from a series I shot through my infamous kitchen window last Sunday. This one has a more friendly looking pose and I did some additional processing to brighten the colors a bit. My goal is to have a DuraPlaq print made for my family room. I applied some luminosity masking and curves to expanded midtones, lights, and bright whites in order to pull some details from the light areas and put some pop in the red brown and green colors. Finally I used TK's make it glow for some final color pop. I adjusted the opacity down so that the change was apparent, but subtle. The effect brightened up the background. I also cropped the original by removing 20% to get the eye in the upper right third of the image. The light bokeh at the top of the image was toned down and blended with a Gaussian blur layer. K5 IIs, 300mm f4 (1/60sec at f6.3, Iso 640). Thanks for looking................Jim

The large version of this image is a must see. Those details are wonderful. I do like this one better than your first post of this bird, the pose is more pleasing and your additional processing makes this stand out. It does seem just a touch too warm though.

Beautiful Portrait Jim

Jim,
This one certainly pops. For me, the colors in your first post seem more natural while this one seems to be a little bit warm on my monitor. Don't really prefer one over the other as it's a matter of artistic choice what we do with our images once we capture them.

The bird is absolutely beautiful with great detail and a nice head turn again. Plus, I noticed the little droplet of water on the tip of the beak and you have the most beautiful perch sitting right in your yard. Lucky you.

Thank you for the critiques. I adjusted the levels and reduced the red using color balance. The TIFF is slightly cooler and I'm close to where I want the colors for printing. I posted the updated jpeg with the updated adjustments. The tree sparrows are the only birds that reliably use these spruce trees for a perch. Another sparrow that came in with this group had its beak covered with seed hulls. This one was by far the most photogenic! Once again thank you :wavey: .........................Jim

Both of these are great. I do prefer the repost a bit more. Amazing detail. This proves a bird doesn't have to have a rainbow of colors to make a great image. Simple and beautiful. Well done.
