Alberta's Surprise

In short, I was planning on being at another location this evening (September 2014) in Rocky Mountain National Park. Due to a few delays in our hiking/driving, myself and a few sibling decided to run up here just before sunset. Sitting next to this river is really quite an experience, with the fall colors lining this gorge.

Sorry I've been so absent in this gallery as of late; made a big move and started a new job. Anyways, I'll hopefully be posting/commenting more, and am wishing for the usual constructive feedback on this image and upcoming images from here in Hawaii.

Canon 60d 10-20mm @ 15mm
ISO 100 --- f/8 --- 1/20sec
(two images blended for different exposures [one for the water, one for the rest])

Good to see you back, Nathan! This is a nice, peaceful image, but does have a fine dynamic with the water. The composition looks very nice. The color and tonality look right on.

Thanks, Preston. It was edited on a new laptop, so it is especially great to hear the color and tonality look good! I'd be interested to hear everyone else's thoughts on that as well...

Great SS, nice control on whites and blacks, good looking colors and details.

This does look like a great place to sit and watch the sun set. Your blending looks fine and the scene is wonderfully inviting with the small rapid in the foreground and the falls at the back. Yes, the colors look real.

I think you managed the illumination challenge very nicely - this image really draws one in!

Very strong comp. Contrast and color look very natural. Could maybe see burning down some of the brighter yellows. Those trees near the top seem to move my eye up and out of the frame.

Love this very natural scene. Would love to see a larger version. The waterfall looks a bit strange somehow. I wonder if having that part of the image shot at a faster SS would look more natural.

I like the diagonal flow of the waterfall from the background to the foreground. The fall color adds to the appeal of the image. Beautiful work!!

Excellent capture and great presentation. I like how the three big rocks anchor the composition.

Nathan: I have several shots of Alberta Falls in my files but none from autumn. I think the season makes the shot and I like the light on the trees especially. Well done. >=))>
