Weary Travelers

When I saw these hemlock saplings bending over from a recent snow, they reminded me of weary travelers slowly trudging through the snow. (I have felt like that at the end of one or two long snowshoe trips.) The problem was the shapes got lost in the busy background. Fortunately, there was enough of unobstructed space behind me to allow me to back off and put on my 100-400 to narrow down the depth of field. Do the shapes stand out enough from the background?

(The Weekly Challenges are so much fun! Crazy week at home -- have not been around much, so I am rushing to get in a couple of images and a few comments in by the end of the week.)

Excellent color, perfect exposure and lots of fine, intimate details, Wayne! I like these kind of close-up shots. I particularly like how you manage to control the exposure so that the subtle shadows and textures of the snow are retained. Very nice!

Yes, Wayne, I do see the similarity. In fact, my first reaction to seeing this was to chuckle about how "weighed down" those two saplings look as they trudge through the snow. The saplings stand out well and the touches of color from the dry leaves in the background are a nice addition. Well seen, backing off and using the long lens worked out very well here.
