Autumn Afternoon

Not the kind of comp I usually try and make. But I thought it might look nice with some sky included. Have been scrolling by this for a couple of months, but glad I finally gave it a chance. Hope you like it too!

Standing on a rock in the middle of the Merced River, Yosemite Valley, CA. Looking in the opposite direction that I usually look.

Hi Chris,

The image has a beautiful and peaceful presence about it. I think it is well balanced, and I enjoy the colors and reflections throughout the image. Love the view of the coniferous trees. :) If had a slight adjustment to make, I may want to crop from the top just a tad because the bright cloud in the middle of the scene grabs my attention just a bit.

But very nice work as is

I particularly like the water and rocks in the FG. For some reason I do not quite understand, I am distracted by the sky and upper part of the image. But the water and the colors in it, ooooh, I like it. :toast:

Chris, This is a very beautiful scene for me. Just the kind of images I really enjoy and this one works great. I like this comp and especially enjoy what the reflections add here. This has a wonderfully quiet and peaceful feel and that is hard to beat. Very nice!

Such an inviting photo! I just want to grab my boots and start hiking there.... The sky works for me, but a panorama with the sky cropped out would work equally well for me.

Nice image Chris. I like the foreground light a lot. The weakest part is the sky. The bottom half really makes up for it though.

It has somewhat of a watercolor look, that I think works beautifully. Glad that you decided to post it! :toast:

A very serene scene with great colors and details Chris. The large version is very nice to spend time looking at the details. Great job on this.

Incredible sharpness and good handling of the colors. For me the sky is a tad too saturated (could be my monitor).

It's amazing how low the water is this year. It's likely that this area normally has water from the left bank to the right.

Like looking out of a window, Chris, very realistic depiction with tons of interest and color. :toast: When I try cropping out the brightest cloud, it feels like the comp is compromised. That last tree that touches the edge seems very important as is.

But boy do we need some rain and snow. I read this morning that ski areas are closing due to a lack of the white stuff... in January. Badger Pass for example may be done for the season  :frown: Squaw Valley has 18" of snow at best when it should have ten feet or so. A fourth consecutive year of drought will just be beyond painful.

I Chris :wavey: A beautiful composition :jump: but i find the sky does compete for our attention. ..... the colors on the trees and rocks are wonderfully done , giving a feeling of serenity to the image :toast:

Love the comp.. the sky is fine but on my monitor it could take less cyan, just a great calming image. :toast:
