King of Trees

I really do like such graphic images and whenever it's snowing I am looking for such opportunities. I also take notes over the year whenever I see a subject that might be suitable for such a graphic image and go back there when I think the conditions might be perfect. When Jan Geerk, a fellow swiss photographer based in Basel told me on that sunday after christmas that it started snowing in this part of switzerland, I decided to check this location after I finished shooting snow images in my local area. And I'm glad I did.

The central tree is a beautiful majestic structure. I really like it. I don't think you are getting the best composition from these elements though. I would crop from the left, eliminating the farthest 2 trees and centering the main subject.

I also like the graphic interpretation you have created. It does indeed look like a drawing.

Holy crap this is amazing. Unassuming at first but the comp is off the charts. Perfect spacing to the trees. Masterpiece. Also worth a b/w conversion as well. Kudos!

I love such graphic images as well. This is well planned and executed. I think if the second small tree (next to the main attraction) was not there this would have been even balanced composition. But this is as good. :toast: :toast:

I really like this. The snow outlining the tracery of the branches in all the trees really sets this apart. I think the composition is just fine as it is. If the two trees on the left are cropped out, the illusion of depth, and balance with the dark hill on the right is lost somewhat.

Nicely done, sir!

Great winter scene, Roland. That big tree really dominates, but including the smaller trees adds a lot of interest. The negative space on the left adds a fine subtle balance.

A beautiful image and the perfect title! You chose a point of view that makes that magnificent tree look truly royal. And the tonal and color treatments are really inspiring. :toast:

i too like the graphic nature of such images and conditions. unlike others (and each to his/her own!) I am not smitten by your composition here as it doesn't seem too balanced to my eye and wonder if you flipped your camera vertically and shot a vertical of the right side of the image, zoomed in a little?

Really sweet, Bill. Love the how the snow has outlined these wonderful trees. I like your comp alot but, culd also see a crop from the right to just inside the far right tree. Regardless, sensational image. I'd also love to see this in B/W. :toast:

Thanks a lot for your feedbacks and suggestions on this one. This is quiet a tough location to shoot, but there are also plenty of composition opprtunities. I also will do a black and white conversion with this one.

I second the raves on the comp.
The step down trees are excellent and the stark PP is perfect.....

This is just a great image. Simple composition but very effective. The line of trees lead the eye right into the image. I really like the feeling of the image also.
