Hyde's Mill

The Hyde"s Mill was built in 1850 and is located in Iowa County WI. It is a place many people love to visit and also quite popular with photographers. I have always enjoyed photographing it in the winter time. This image is a crop of the original for a Scenic Wisconsin Calendar format. Thanks for looking. Larger version included.

Nice winter seen - I love the color blast provided by the red osier dogwood in he left corner and I think the mill is pretty clean (in that there aren't any sticks or branches in front).

I really like this image. The light is great and the composition is right on. Very nice feeling to this image. I can feel myself there is the quit of a calm winters day.

What a beautiful scene. Conditions looked just about perfect for a truly wonderful image. I totally understand why it is there but the large sign on the side of the mill really bugs me.

Thanks guys! I appreciate your comments.
John, Yes, It would be nice if the sign wasn't there but I too understand why it is. I'm so used to seeing it now that I hardly think about it anymore. Thanks, Nick

I love the subject, the snow and the stream. For other purposes other than a calendar would you consider cropping as a pano down to eliminate the cut-off tree and up to eliminate most of the foreground weeds. Think it would work that way as well.

What a wonderful shot! Love the light and the red accent in the foreground. I think the image is beautiful just as it is.

I don't recall ever seeing a photo of this mill, Nick. Very photogenic and well captured in the snow for a very appealing winter scene. :toast:

Neat look at this old mill, Nick. As presented there's a fine sense of an old time sepia print that the red osier works well with.

Nice image Nick. It reminds me of the films in my youth where the Barker gang would be holed up in there and had to shoot their way out. But I digress ....

I like it the way it is. The pano idea has merit but probably is not a strong a composition as this one. The foreground does give you a sense of space that would be lacking in the pano.

Lovely winter scene! It looks so peaceful, yet the mill provides lots of interest. The light is just wonderful. A fine image, indeed!

A perfect calendar image, Nick. Yep, that sign is a bit obnoxious for those of us not used to it. Don't see why it has to be 20 sf in size!

The red twigs and warm light are a nice complement to the wintry palette. This would also work as a B+W too though, I would think. I like the idea of cropping down to eliminate top of the poorly pruned tree.

Catherine, Carey, Allen and Dave, Thanks much for your comments and suggestions!
Dave, I do think your crop idea would work nice. I probably should have done that right from the beginning.
