Dunes, snow

Taken at Great Sand Dunes National Park, January 1 2015.

D7100 with Tokina 11-16 f2.8 at 16mm
ISO 400, f16 at 1/320

Some curve adjustments and boosted clarity & presence; darkened snow patch in shadow on left; cleaned some sensor spots in Photoshop.

Thanks so much for all the great feedback on my other shot! Would love to hear your thoughts on this one. I waited all day for the light to be right. It was snowing in the morning, sun came out in the afternoon but was behind clouds until about 45 minutes before sunset -- perfect timing!

Love the rich, vivid color in this, Moishe. The tonal range creates an interesting mood, and I like how the trough patterns in the snow are repeated on a much larger scale in the distance. So glad the sun was cooperative for you...impressive work!

I'm probably missing something here, but was there some reason you set your ISO so high for this? Just curious...

You captured some wonderful patterns in the snow and I like the implied motion with that sweeping dune as it draws me into the scene. My only suggestion would be to reduce the cyan a bit in the sky. Nicely done, Moishe.

I really like the simple composition with the gentle curves, Moishe, and you caught the light just right! My only suggestion would be to tone down a bit the snow in the foreground, so as to help focus attention on the curving dune.

I like the tritone design of this. Nice geometrical composition.

This looks good. There's so much to like here, the big sweeping curve of the snow and sand, all the detailed structure in both of those and the clean sky, making for a largely tricolored image.

Hi Moishe,

The composition works for me with the diagonal of the snow and how it leads me .Also, I get to enjoy the textures and patterns of the snow and sand in the this ride. I agree with Ed about experimenting with the cyan in the sky, it just looks a tad bit strong to my eye.

Very nice work

Real nice shapes, lines, colors and textures. It comes together very well. I would also agree about the cyan in the sky, but not a biggie.
