Needles and Cones

An image taken this fall while backpacking up on Zion's west rim. A bit late for Christmas, but we're still in season. D600, 24-85 @ 85, tripod, .8, f22, iso 200. I used my body to shield the morning sun streaking through the trees and lighting up patches of the scene. Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome. :wavey:

I definitely thought Christmas when I saw this. Great combination of color and textures. I don't actually see the frost but the cool blue tints to cones and needles suggest it. Lovely

This is taking the common and bringing it forward for all to enjoy. It is vivid …reaching out to give a crunch and snap underfoot… well done!

I really like the "straight down" point of view - a bit unusual but it works really well with the repeated pine cones. The colors and tones are beautiful too!

Natural subjects in a pleasing display of shapes and colors. Shows what can be found if you only look at things a little closer.

The frame is well filled, the pine cones help balance out the photo, the leaves have a nice variety of color and the pine straw binds it all together. The color and contrast could stand a little juicing. Good eye to see this!

Love the cool tones here, Scott and the interplay between the leaves and the cones which makes a strong focal point unnecessary. A very jolly image !!

Good eye to find this scene underfoot as it were. Love the natural arrangement and the pattern of cones and leaves balanced so well. Great to see a post from you hear in flora! Cheers.

This is a gorgeous arrangement, Scott, great job of seeing! I sure like the red/green holly leaves and how well they're set off by the cones and needles.

You don't need to write your name under this photo, Scott. A splendid work again, nothing for a critique.

Magically doesn't seem overlyt "busy" despite all the subjects.  I esp like the graceful look of the pine needles.
