Cardinal Portrait

This Cardinal would not cooperate by using the perches I was set up for so I thought I would do a portrait of her with the snow covered background since she did give me such a nice pose. 50% of full frame, shot from blind.

Pesky birds refusing to be helpful - who do they think they are???? I really love the colors and definition, and her expression is excellent! :toast:

WOW Mike....Excellent image. The flash got you that extra little bit of fill light that defines the feathers. Love the slight head turn, the catch light in the eye, and the raised crown feathers. .

Mike,
Lovely catch. The bright bird contrast with the background doesn't feel right to me, but making it softer is above my pay grade. Perhaps others will have suggestions. The detail and colors of the bird are stunning. :toast:

What a great close up portrait! With individual whiskers showing and such fabulous detail in the feathers and range of color, I wish there was more detail in the eye. I'd say she did the 'Princess' pose for you!

Hi Mike,

Cardinals look good with a snowy bg. The fill flash produced some ideal details in the plumage and the image is nice and sharp with rich color. Well done :toast: ..............................Jim

You certainly used what she gave you. Razor-sharp, without being over-sharpened. Really nice, Mike.

Hi Mike, cracking detail and I love the plumage colours which off set the bill nicely. Just wished the eye wasn't so solid, I think having some 'form/detail' would have been better, but the flash may have just lost those finer details? Very striking.
