I am standing on the Fremont Bridge in Seattle looking due East at Capitol Hill in the background and the Ship Canal as it enters Lake Union in the foreground. Overhead is the I-5 Freeway Bridge. There was a lot of tonal range on this winter, late afternoon (about 3:45!), so I applied NIK Color Efex filters- GND, foliage enhancement mask; and Viveza to brighten, structure and lift shadows. I like the result, but want to know what you think of the tonal balance achieved with the GND filter, etc., if it looks natural to you. All comments are welcome– bit odd having a bridge at the top….

I was going to say, before I read your last sentence, that I find the crop on the bridge a bit awkward, though I'm not sure there is much you can do about it, short of finding a different spot to shoot from, which may not exist ! The colors and tonal range look very natural and beautiful - just what a PNW (rare) sunny winter afternoon looks like (for the record, I lived in Eugene for 5 years  )

Catherine,
Lovely shot. Did your original photo include the left side of the bridge? :toast:

I repost another, similar image but without the bridge. (Gob smack! It's the AURORA bridge, not the Freeway Bridge!) Similar treatment in post-processing. I thought when I compared the two, that the one with the bridge in it was more dynamic. But yes, shot full frame as is, the bridge… Well, I guess I'll have to work on the comp some more… Would you dare to compare them for me? Thanks.

Catherine - I like the new crop A LOT more!! It would be nice if you could have kept the full tree on the left and some more of the boats on the right (but then you would hav had to crop too much sky/clouds???), but even without that I think that it is a much stronger composition. And I don't think that the definition was hurt in any appreciable way. :toast:
