White Breasted Nuthatch

While photographing the small birds that frequent our area, I captured a photo of a nuthatch with a piece of suet in his beak. I was surprised to see a bit of tongue anatomy that is not usually seen. Not withstanding, I liked the detail in the bird. Cropped to about 60% of original.
D4 and 500mm lens at 1/2500, f/8 and Auto ISO 360. Richard

Richard,
You got a good one here, the detail throughout, the tongue and beak action as mentioned and that sweet BG all combine to set this image apart from the usual. The larger version should not be missed. My only suggestion would be and since this a fairly large crop, to add back a bit more canvas all the way around to maybe a 75 to 80% crop. That would relieve the slight 'Tight Feel' that you seem have now IMHO, food for thought.
Very nice regardless . . . :toast:

I agree with Mike on the tightness of the crop. I also think that it may be a bit oversaturated IMHO. Maybe just the branch and background. Great detail on the little guy. Nice capture.

Great detail on the bird -- on my monitor the bg is a bit dark -- might try to lighten it a bit just to see what that would look like. Like the seed in the beak

No nits whatsoever! :toast: Well, almost none. I like the tightness of the crop and the colorful BG. I might consider desaturating the branch.

Thanks folks for your comments. In an earlier post, I had mentioned my genetic predisposition towards over saturation. It's a constant battle. Here's a re-do with lowered saturation, a looser crop and a bit of brightening. Still like the tighter crop though. Richard

No nits from me on this one Richard. Very nice image...love the tongue, the meal and great sharpness with a very pleasing BG color.
