A Few Leaves Linger

Almost Christmas in our fair city, and still a few leaves hang on in sheltered places here and there. Street shooting through the Fremont neighborhood, Seattle, WA.

D750, 105/2.8 micro, circ.pol., handheld; f9, 1/640, iso800. Post-processing in Ps5 and NIK.

A very Happy Holidays to all.

An image of quiet charm, Catherine. The light wash of cloud adds a good deal, and the overall tonality is very attractive. I suppose it would be nice to see something of the context in this instance but, if your streets are like mine, that could result in something quite messy !!

The scattered leaves and wintery sky do a good job of quietly telling a winter story here, Catherine. (Now I've got Simon & Garfinkle's "winter's day..." running through my head. ) I'd like to see the leaves stand out a bit better. I wonder if selecting the red channel (since they're somewhat orange) and dodging through it as a mask might selectively brighten them?

Happy Holidays.

Thanks for the comments, you two. And for the suggestion, Mark; I'll try it out. This was taken in the hour before sunset (about 3:30 p.m.!!), and the tree was backlit. So, this is a bit of a rescue as is, as I was shooting quickly and not thinking about exposure compenstion.... I liked the mood, though- our version of winter. I've never tried the technique you mentioned Mark, so it will be a fun exploration. Catch the context in the POP gallery; I couldn't work it all in with what I wanted from the tree and from "JP."

The pale thin blues of the winter sky gives this image a chilly feel. The leaves look like they will fly away any minute in a gust of cold wind.

Hi Catherine. I like the image as you have accomplished a personal editing. In the fall photos people enhance the warm typical colors of this season; in the opposite you have lowered the saturation.
I try a suggestion: going further in the pictorial look, I would try to reduce even more the contrast and increase the luminosity. What happens Catherine?
Happy Holidays to you too.
