Bite Me!

Mustang grapes are the first to ripen in the summer here in Texas. They have a thick skin surrounding a very tart, gelatinous inner. This tartness makes them unpleasant to eat off the vine. Every year we make some into a jam, and their skins are a great source of pectin.
And although an insect has eaten part of the leaf, the grapes scream Bite Me! ;)

I remember my mom and grandma making jelly out of these, Howard, it's very good. That leaf has seen some hard times....reminds me of a Ranger Led hike in Rocky Mountain National Park, where he pointed out a Deadly Amanita mushroom and it very clearly had a chipmunk size bite including teeth marks taken out. I looked for the rodent, but couldn't find it. You've got some great colors her and the rain drops add a fine touch of atmosphere.

Good colors! I like how some of the grapes lead right to the bite (s) out of the leaf. Thanks for sharing.
