Crater Lake Sunset

Taken this summer from The Watchman as an evening thunderstorm was drifting past Mount Scott in the distance. I was hopeful the storm would grow like it did the previous evening but it was not to be. This is an 8x exposure panoramic blend with some dodging and burning. I'm considering this for a 32W x 16H wall picture. C&C greatly appreciated.

Canon on EOS 6D
Canon 24-105 @ 32 mm
F7.1 @ 1/50 sec

Thanks!

Gorgeous panorama, Joe, I would try to add a bit to the bottom of the picture, if you have the material, so as not to have the shore so close to the edge. Regarding a large print, you may want to bring the sharpening down a bit, as otherwise it may end up looking too grainy, judging from the large photo. I realize that lighting conditions were difficult, but you have nonetheless captured the grandeur of Crater Lake very well !!! And of course storms will do what they want

Great spot and panorama, I love this view and this will surly look great printed big. For my taste I would like to see a little more foreground.

It's certainly a grand scene. These are tough lighting conditions for a single exposure. It looks like you've lifted the shadows, but the result looks a little washed out and lacking in contrast, but it's hard to judge at this small size.

Looks like a grand view and I would say you made the most out of the weather conditions, Joe. As others have mentioned it would be nice to have a little more room at the bottom. I could see this with some more contrast and saturation as the scene does look a little flat, particularly Wizard Island. I think with a few tweeks this would make a nice print for your wall.

Thanks folks! I appreciate the feedback and will try to up the contrast a tad. Unfortunately, there's no more foreground to show. Trying to get good panoramic shots in HDR situations has been a challenge for me because the light changes so quick. You could watch the shadow line rise up the far side of the caldera in real time. I have a few standard prints that have better color and contrast but lose the "bigness" you get with the PANO. Choices, choices!

Thanks again!
