I really like the moodiness of this, with the isolated tree outlined against a foreboding sky. Works well.

Carey,

Sorry, I can't help with the identification. I like the image though and particularly the mood you've captured/created. As a minor nit before printing, I think I see a touch of halo around the top of the tree and the mountains. Could just be me though.

Really nice, Carey. I'd have to guess Juniper on the tree. Love the sky and the placement of the tree low in the frame. I'd have to echo Pat's comment on the halos although pretty minor. There is also a dust spot just above the right ridge line. Minor stuff, great image.

Looks a bit like a Mountain Mahogany but I can't say for sure from the b&w. Framed against that dramatic sky it really stands out. Nicely done

I like the tension created by the lone tree and the stormy sky. The tones look pretty nice.

Sorry, can't help with ID of the tree: a larger color version may help.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Regarding the halo around the tree, I looked at that during processing and concluded it was natural. Regardless, if it's distracting then might be worth trying to fix.

It's a fine moody image, Carey, with the isolated tree against the stormy sky.

The tones look very good to me, and the mood moves me.

Images like this fine capture remind to take the time and appreciate what is in front of me on this day. I am not sure why, but these kind of images help me to reflect on life Carey.

Very nice b & w. Way off-center of the tree somehow really balances the composition.
