Lanternman's Mill, Mill Creek Park, Youngstown, Ohio. I drive past (or very close) to this 175 year old but still operating grist mill, on the National Register of Historic Places, most days of the week on my way to work. I have dozens of images of it. This one was taken in the fall of 2013 as fog was lifting. I have several other images of this mill in my gallery. This weekend is "Christmas at the Mill," an annual event which features holiday decorations, historic demonstrations, food, music, and crafters/artists (me included). It's my 10th year as a vendor at this event. Hoping for decent weather as the "Old Mill" isn't heated! D700, 14-24 @ 14, cpl, iso 200, .4. Comments, suggestions, and questions welcome. :wavey:

You've got some fine colors here, Scott, plus an excellent sunstar. I like the warmth of the scene and the walkway leading me in, but am bothered by the distortion from the super wide lens.

Beautiful shot Scott, so many elements it takes a while to absorb them all. Looks like a wonderful place!

Outstanding moment captured here Scott,
Good luck this weekend and I am wishing for you good weather, a big crowd with deep pockets and lots of sales.
It's always nice the see the visitors heading out the door with one of your works all bubble wrapped and under their arm.
 Man !

Like the colors, light, overall scene, but am also bothered by the distortion. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Scott :wavey: I like how you captured this quintessential scene with the wide angle lens. It's like looking back 175 years.. the colors and light are magical. :toast:

A gorgeous scene with great color and details plus an excellent composition. The only thing that bothers me is the fisheye look. It's always particularly obvious with man made structures. I think I would have zoomed that 14-24 in and shot 3 vertical frames and stitched them. It would result in the same wide angle coverage but everything would be nice and straight.

Vibrant colour and a wide angle composition rich in incident and superb in its development of space, Scott. Very beautiful image !!!

Even better when I come back for another look, one of my favorites of yours.
The WA distortion doesn't really bother me, but then some might argue I'm not quite as picky as I should be..
Perhaps it's because I try to keep focused on the 'big picture'
Well done! :toast:

Thanks for the comment, Howard. I understand the issue about the distortion.I wondered about it, but this mill has been shot 1000's of times, and I thought this look is at least something different. I also don't think the distortion bothers many non-photogs judging by comments I've received elsewhere. :wavey:

I like the light and, in my view, the distortion works very well in this image. It not always does, but in this case I think it "makes" the picture.
