Out for a Stroll
by Peter Cross
At least right at this moment he's just strolling. It's been chaotic on the reserve today with many new bucks and rutting behavior constantly happening. At one point about 6 bucks got into a thing of chasing each other at full speed all over the place. I decided to stay put, based on what I observed before, and shortly the bucks started to wander back. That gave me another opportunity to photograph them but this time at a more leisurely pace. This guy I hadn't seen before but I think he's related to some of the resident deer. I base this on how white the inside of his legs are, the light face, etc. Seems to be a trait with some of the deer here. He gave me a nice pose here (thanks) and I had a reasonably good OOF BG. Thank you Canon. I really didn't do very much to this photo as it's pretty much as it came from the camera. Thanks again to Canon. This is full frame but I warmed it up just a little, added contrast and clarity, and reduced the highlights just a little. The histogram looked fine but there were a few white spots that I thought could show a little more detail. This helped do that. I'd appreciate any comments or critiques regarding this photo.

4 commentsMottled lighting is always a challenge to handle - but you managed this one quite well (and I like that you maintained most of the contrast). Seems like this area that you visit so often is a challenge to shoot in (with respect to having a lot of distractions). On that note,I do find the two bright trees in the upper right corner a bit distracting...if this were mine I'd probably just tone down the lighting on them a little.
Cheers...
