This is a Fox Sparrow; not a Hermit Thrush. Unlike the eastern form (which is rather reddish), there are 2-3 western forms that are much darker like this bird. Note the thick bill typical of sparrows (thrushes have much thinner bills), and the chevrons (arrow heads) on the breast.

The image is very nice, with a clear view, good detail, and nice setting.

Nicely done Sandy :toast: . Probably one of the more clear views you will ever get as these can be rather secretive........................Jim

Nie POV on this one Sandy. I also like the pose and the perch. I do think it could use a touch more contrast though.

Nice capture of this perky little bird. Personally, I think getting good shots of the small birds is very often difficult, so congrats. Looks a bit flat on my monitor though and there'a a circular oof area near the bird's back that could be cloned away. Very well done nonetheless. Richard

Finally can say why I like this one so much, besides the fact that he seems to be striking a pose for you. For me, it gives the illusion that it's taken in the very uppermost canopy, and you are somehow a bit above even that. Good bokeh, and if there had been an in focus twig above, this would be just another ground level snapshot. Really nice, and a learned lesson. Thanks.
