Waterbuck Wink

I was trawling through my archives the other night, making space for new files by deleting files that are now 2+ years old that I haven't touched yet, when I came across this photo.

The species depicted is a Common Waterbuck, found throughout much of Southern Africa. The photo was taken in the Kruger National Park late one afternoon in March 2012 - a few minutes after physical sunset.

Techs:
Nikon D3s
Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
1.4x teleconverter
f8.0 | 1/1250 SS | ISO-9000

Lovely detail on this whimsical shot. Is there and alternative to physical sunset?

LOL Phil, well when you do landscape photography there are a couple of phases of sunset. Not that "physical" sunset is one of them. They include astronomical sunset, nautical sunset, etc. By physical I just meant after the sun had gone down, though it was cloudy conditions.

Like the humorous aspect Morkel, looks a tad crunchy, but ISO9000 cool.

Hey Morkel,

Well...I hope you didn't miss out touching some great shots over the last two years and ended up turfing them! I totally understand the need to get ruthless on managing image collections, but not sure I'd impose the "2+ years and untouched" rule on myself!

Cute shot. And made even more cute (and impactful) by great colour/light contrast between subject and background and good contrast in clarity (meaning excellent use of selective focus and DoF control). Net result - the simplicity of the shot combines with the contrast to enhance the power of that wink.

Well done.

Cheers...

Brad
