Sage Grouse

Here's a portrait of a Sage Grouse from our Malheur trip a couple of years ago. This is full frame. The grouse are photographed from the cars on a dirt road, sometimes they are out in the field a bit but sometimes they come close to the cars, on this occasion they walked right up to the cars and crossed the road.

Stunning plumage. It seems a bit soft in places, mostly the right side of the neck. Sweet BG.

Thanks Phil, probably not enough depth of field to get it all sharp being this close, the 7D isn't very good at higher isos so it didn't make sense for me to stop down with the low amount of light available. So in a situation like this I focus on the eye.

Beautiful close-up of this handsome bird Nate ! The eye and face are sharp, that's what matters most. :toast:

Did not get further than the head Nate and that looks spot on to me,must be good to get close to these birds.

A great profile of this grouse, Nate! Nice separation from the background yet all of the bird is in focus and the details are sharp and clean. I really like the color tones in this scene, including the pastel background colors. Very nice capture!
