Derryclare Dawn

A magical still dawn on one of Connemara's most beautiful lakes. The stillness was just unreal. This is an old one captured on my nikon f5 on velvia. This is a location we visit on a number of our west of Ireland photography workshops.

Incredible reflection, Peter. Love the stark silhouettes of the trees and mountains as well as the grasses on the right. Your 50:50 composition works perfectly. That old Velvia was so good.

I love the way you have handled this capture Peter by keeping the darks dark. The stillness created such a wonderful opportunity to mirror the sky on the water, and you did this masterfully.

beautiful work

Not sure whether it's the Velvia or the scanning process but there are some strange striations on the right side of the reflection below the bank. Other than that, it's a wonderful image.

Love this Peter. The colors are really beautiful and the patterns in the sky blend nicely with the shapes in the foliage. Combined they actually give me the feeling of motion rather than stillness.

You definitely had some beautiful light to work with here. I think the silhouetted trees and hills work well here as well.

Beautiful image, Peter. Love the dark silhouette and the conveyance of the wonderful dawn calm. I also wonder what's up with the right side of the image.

I don't think you are seeing what I am seeing on the right, Peter. I'm glad Gary mentioned it also. Unless the reeds are 20 feet tall, there is some kind of artifact there. Maybe its our browsers.

I like the sky color and the way it transitions from blue t orange. Clouds are sure a lucky catch too. Amount of "black" feels a bit much, but can't think of anyway to lessen that.
