Purple Finch

Its shaping up to be a good winter for birds here in Northwest Indiana. Already had 11 Purple Finch at my home feeders compared to zero last year. They usually show up when the lighting is poor, so I am happy with any shot I can get.
Hope you enjoy.

A very colorful image. I do like the background, but wish it was not as bright as it is. The heavy triangular shape created by the tree is a pretty dominant component of the image that doesn't add to the overall feel. This is a classic image where fill flash could have been used to tame the lighting. Dialing in negative ambient exposure compensation would have allowed the background to be darker, and then using flash to light the subject. Probably would have wanted to use a bit of negative flash compensation as well to avoid any flashed look.

I agree with Keith, I like the background but it's a little over intense. Toning it down would balance the frame and make it less distracting. Really nice exposure and detail on the Finch.

Nice colors in the finch. I have yet to see one here in central IL. Hope a few will pass by. To me it looks like your highlights could be a bit darker. Thanks for sharing.
