Stream of Tears

If you are familiar with Zion, you may be able to determine the location of this scene based on the title.

I think that this location had some of the best autumn color in Zion Canyon during the last week in October, which was quite warm. But now that cooler weather has moved in over this past weekend, I'm sure that the rest of the canyon will be catching up.

Wonderful shot, Jim. I'm not sure where this is , but it looks as though you could get away from the tourist here. Just went to Zion today hoping the weather would break and have some dramatic evening skies, but got washed out instead. Very nice work. :toast:

Lovely area, leaves, and composition. (Not familiar with Zion, but I'd like to be).
My only nit is just a personal preference. I like to see moving water, but it seems to have disappeared from this shot, with such a long exposure.

This is beautiful, Jim. The stream makes a great leading line and there are so many subtle and warm colors in the fallen leaves and the trees.

Very pretty, Jim. I especially like the foreground. I am pretty familiar with Zion, at least for someone who has lived in Ohio his whole life, but I am not familiar with this location, even with your clue. I may have to get out my map of Zion and study the clue. :wavey:

Very nice Zion scene.
The SS does seem a bit much, not sure the reason?
I think it could also be warmed up a tad for my preference.
The FG leaves and rock really look good.

Thanks for the comments everybody.

Gary ... I wouldn't say that this location is away from the tourists. But most tourists probably walk right by it without even knowing it's there. Were you one of those ... ummm ... dedicated ... people I saw standing in the rain on the bridge this afternoon waiting to photograph The Watchman at sunset as I was driving back to my warm cozy hotel room? From the balcony of my warm cozy hotel room I could see that it looked for a brief time like there might be a good sunset shaping up. But then nothing materialized.

Wayne ... This stream is not much more than a trickle normally. Even without a polarizer, flowing water is not all that evident unless you are shooting a close-up of one of the small cascades like the one in the foreground of this image.

Scott ... Keep studying your map.

Dan ... The location was very well shaded at the time, I was using a polarizer at full strength, the aperture was f/16 to get a good DOF, and the ISO was 50. All of that combined to necessitate the 8 second shutter speed.

Strong composition Jim and sweet light. I particularly like the variety of muted colors in this. Nice textural and color contrasts and complements throughout the image. Lots of interesting things to look at. Beautiful as posted for my tastes.

A beautiful little intimate capture Jim. I particularly like the foreground's grasses, rocks and leaves, and the Stream leads the viewer with a nice diagonal into the tree canopy above.
