Callop River Floodwater

by Gary McGhee

Gallery: LandscapePosted November 2, 2014757 views19 comments
I had a few days up in the Scottish Western Highlands last week. Although the rain wasn't to bad whilst there the few days preceding my visit were battered by torrential rains. I took a trip to Glenfinnan hoping to get some photo's of Loch Shiel but the flood water really restricted my access. As a result I took a walk along the flooded river and came across this watery landscape.

All feedback is welcome, good or bad and thanks for looking.

Gary.

Nice image. I like the juxtaposition of splash of color and the trees. There seem to be some cloning error though, centre-top the branch seem to pop out of nowhere. I may be seeing things.

Thanks for the feedback Prashant. This shot is as taken, I can assure you no cloning has been done to this shot. I can see what you mean though. I think it is a larger tree sticking out of the shrub and bracken in the background if that makes sense.

Cheers. Gary.

Sweet image. The blue light works real well to create mood and make this look a bit more mysterious. Real nice.

I love the muted color and the FG trees and reflections are ghostly.
Nice work.....
I agree about the branch at the top looking out of place, I would clone it out.

Lovely composition and nice detail, Gary. There appears to be a cyan cast in the whites that's especially visible in the near trees. Other than that, I think this works very well.

I like this a lot, Gary. You've made incredible sense out of this chaotic scene. Love the muted colors and reflection. Very nice :toast: :toast:

There is a lot going on in this scene; however, I think it comes together well. I like the way that you have framed the bare trees against the backdrop of fall foliage.

Beautiful image, Gary. The bare trees have a ghostly look to them, making the image both evocative and beautiful. :toast:

Gary, back off the cyan in the white as mentioned, and this will be a wonderful large print. The backdrop colors make the etching of the trunks and limbs standout very nicely.

I sure do like this, Gary. The leafless trees and their reflections are very stark but yet attractive. Then you've got enough color in the grasses and the leaves on the left to add some warmth. I like that tree in the top middle and understand that it doesn't have a reflection because it's closer than the trees further left...not a problem.

lovely scene, beautifully captured. I'd consider cropping off the top to eliminate that dark branch at the centre top.

Stark presentation, I like the subtle autumn colors in the backdrop. Perhaps could see a bit more contrast. Nice work Gary!

Nice one! I maybe would play with lowering the brightness a wee bit, but I'm not sure it would be beneficial actually, just a thought. I have no problems with the larger tree top center, I actually thinks it adds to the picture and would definitely not clone it out.

This such a beautifully moody capture Gary, and I love these autumn scenes with the mellow blue light. The contrast between the detailed trees in the background, and the softer reflection makes for a striking image.

Awesome stuff here :toast:
