I'm considering cropping the right side to make this a 4x5. I think it would make the composition a little more evenly balanced. But I wanted to post the full-frame image and get viewers opinions.

Very cool. Love the originality here -- I don't recall ever seeing an abstract of mud rolls and leaves. Fine work.

I totally agree about cropping the right off -- that was my first impression even before I read your comments.

Yes, crop. The textures and earthy colors here are great.

Excellent. I love the shapes, patterns and colors. Yeah, I would crop it too. Very well done, Jim!

Drop dead gorgeous Jim. IMHO, I would leave as it as far as cropping is concerned - That one yellowish leaf in the middle balanced this so nicely. Great work.

This is great. Don't know if I've seen the cracked mud with the autumn leaves (leafs) before...really cool. I see what you mean about the crop, but I also like the image as full frame. Very nice...

This is great, Jim. The mud rolls and the scattering of leaves really work very well together. Excellent job of seeing. I like this very much as presented, but think I see why you'd consider a crop given the relative sparsity of leaves on the right. For me the extra look at the cracked mud that the rhs provides adds nicely to the overall balance. I could also see a similar crop on the left to let those clear mud cracks play a larger role....talk about helpful

Wonderful, unique fall image. I think you could crop to the right of the big yellow leaf at the bottom right and still have a great shot. It's great either way.

I actually like it as is. I don't see any compelling need to crop it. The right side is slightly less busy than the left but still very naturally ordered and well contained and I do like that one roll of mud on the right top that draws the eye without being too dominant. Looks good to me.

Totally amazing miniature landscape, Jim. The scattering of autumn leaves among the mud rolls works beautifully. This is wonderful as is, but I like the crop suggestion a little more. either way you can't go wrong.

I think the image works well as presented. While a small crop (just to the left of the round brown thing) might be an enhancement, I think that a 4x5 ratio would be throwing out too much interesting real estate. A unique photo for sure. Where was this taken?

I might agree with your suggestion of creating a 4x5, however you'd be cropping out some very nice detail in the curved area of dried mud. I might personally think about copying and pasting one or two leaves from another area of the scene into the right to fill up those empty areas. Maybe just one small red leaf.

Thanks everybody for the kind comments and the feedback.

Dave, this was taken in one of the (normally) dry washes in the east section of Zion. Zion experienced significant flash flooding this past summer on three occasions that I'm aware of. There is evidence of the flooding throughout the park, including crews which are still doing road and drainage repairs. Mud rolls as in this photograph are one of the more interesting and photogenic pieces of evidence.

This is really nice. I like it a bit more than the vertical version. A crop to 4x5 would work but I think it's strong either way.
