Jagdeep,
This works well, but I would have preferred all of the foremost Elephants head, you will have to get a 200-400

I really like this composition Jagdeep. I very much enjoy the texture and sharpness visible in the closest elephant. I do find myself wishing the other two elephants on the left side animals were a tad sharper.

I also wish the FG elephant had a bit more of it's head visible. I am fine with the DOF choice though and think in this case leaving the back elephants less sharp provides a better sense of depth.

Hi Jagdeep,

Interesting experiment. To be honest, this doesn't work too well for me and I had to think awhile before I could explain why. I think what the issue is for me is that in this case the two elephants on the left (that are the most OOF) are equally as dominant in the frame and the composition as the in-focus elephant(s). Or, said another way, the in-focus elephant seems no more dominant to me than the others in the composition and I'm left wondering why - through selective focus - it's considered the main subject. To me the in-focus elephant looks more like a "natural frame" for the image - or almost a "bookend" - and my eye naturally moves off it and quickly wanders over to the left-most elephants - and with them OOF there's almost a bit of visual confusion for me (almost a "huh...why aren't these guys in focus??").

Hope this makes sense...a bit hard to explain my reaction to this image. But great that you're trying new and different things - and this gallery is a super place to do so!

Cheers...

Brad
