Fishing at Bolsa Chica
by Harry Harris
I had not been to Bolsa Chica since June, so two weeks ago I gave it a try. Nice morning light but not much bird activity at first. Then a few grebes showed up and then a few terns and pelicans to catch the fish hiding around the bridge. Soon a couple Snowys and a Great Egret showed up, the Snowy perched on the bridge rail not far from me and the Great Egret on the edge of the channel. The tide was very high and I was surprised when right after a couple terns hit the water, the Snowy jumped down and hovered over the water (to deep to wade) and tried to get some small fish escaping the terns and was successful. I had not seen this behavior before.
Then this Great Egret took of the edge of the channel and flew to deep water after a couple terns stirred up the fish and I captured a series of that behavior. This is my favorite of the series.

7 commentsthis is a wonderful shot. He is behaving like a Reddish Egret. Is he wearing a costume?
