Photographing in the “Palouse”

The “Palouse” area is located in Southeastern Washington, south of where I live in Spokane. The major towns are Pullman, home of Washington State University and Moscow Idaho, home of the University of Idaho. Many professional photographers state the area is one of the best kept secrets. They compare it to driving through the gorgeous countryside of Tuscany in Italy and that the “Palouse” is almost the next best thing. The area is a popular location for photography workshops.

Thanks for viewing!

Beautiful work Rick. The rust integrates nicely with the color in the terrain. I like this a lot.

Great old truck. I really like the color, composition and the drama the sky adds to the image. Great pic.

Nice find - I like how the grass is mowed around the truck with the long pieces sticking up around the tires and through the grill which shows that someone is very aware of this truck's presence, but they choose to leave it there.

My only nit is that there is so much good color in the truck and the grasses (which I think can be pulled out even more) but the sky is simply grey - I really would like some blues or sunset/sunrise tones

A really neat take of this seemingly abandoned old pickup. I could see folks trying to find this old rig just to try and resurrect it. Palouse has a lot of open farm territory to explore, and you've pointed it out very nicely here with this fine image. Thanks for sharing it.

Nicely done, Rick. I like the varied color palette and textures. You had a nice sky to work with, as well.

Pat... Richard... Paul... Preston...

Much thanks for taking the time to view and comment on this image.

I have to admit, another activity have taken me away from photograph. Decided to get back into fly fishing as it's been about 12 years since I stepped into a river to fish. Too, the "right" photo opportunity had presented itself, but like I said, I haven't been making it a priority.

Luke - Thank you for your comments. I'll revisit post processing and see if adding some more truck color saturation, plus the grass, adds to the image. Regarding the clouds... Sorry, but would change a thing. For me, dark clouds make me dash outdoors with my camera. My thoughts is they add "drama" and "mood" to an image.

Thanks again all!

This image is wonderful! You made excellent use of these conditions to bring this all together. I like this sky a lot for a backdrop of this old truck. Very nice work, Rick!

Rick: I lived in Spokane in my pre-photography days and did some drives through the Palouse and found it fascinating. Would love to get back there again knowing what I know now. This is terrific. Superb comp and the light and sky work really well for me. 2 thumbs up. >=))>
