Red-tailed hawk

Over the weekend I was in Newport Rhode Island to run my first half-marathon and spend the weekend with friends. My wife and I went to Sachuest point wildlife refuge when we first got there to get in photography time and this beautiful hawk was atop the nature center. I took this photo with different apertures to see which I liked most - and I much prefer this to ones where the shingles are in focus.

Nikon D7100 300mm f4 + 1.7X TC HH
f/6.7
1/1250s
ISO 320

Cropped to 75% for compositional purposes

I like the light and the head turn in this one Luke. If one, I might get rid of about half the OOF FG in the shot and think a vertical might look better....or at least a tighter crop with the 4x5 you have this at now. Looks like you have plenty of IQ to handle it.

Always good to find a raptor hanging out at the HQ for a wildlife refuge. A nice capture and composition. I think it adds a lot to the photo;s story to show where it was.

I think what you did here with the shallow depth of field was an excellent way to deal with the man made perch. Nice image, I would consider cropping a bit from the top. :toast:
