Into the Storm

I have been breaking out the wide angle lens on safari more and more during the past year. This is from the recent safari I hosted to the Mara Triangle during the Great Migration. Just love how this family of elephants are walking into the eye of the storm...poignant and metaphoric, don't you think?

Techs:
Nikon D3s
Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 @ 24mm
f4.0 | 1/160 SS | ISO-640
Kenko Pro CPL

Very ominous looking sky and this works very well in B&W.

Looks sufficiently ominous, Morkel. Nice choice going extra wide on this one.

Dark clouds are adding lots of atmosphere here and agree about the ominous feel.
May prefer to burn some of the foreground too.

You are taking photography to another level altogether, Morkel! This is astounding, at least to me!

This is indeed a very dramatic shot with clouds as leading lines and an uncluttered foreground. Given that elephants are the scale measure, you gain an appreciation for the vastness of the environment as well as the size of the impending storm. I think the photo would benefit just a bit by lightening of the clouds as most of their detail and contrast is too dark to be seen. Nonetheless, wish I was in the vehicle with you at the time. Your choices indeed provide dramatic impact. My reactions are pretty much already stated by Richard...

Morkel...what can I say other than I love this. What an ominous feel this has..your processing decisions to keep this more on the dark side are terrific. Really like how wide you shot this and the fact the elephants are mooing out really gives me something to think about as a viewer wondering where are the going? Terrific work! :toast:
