A Bit of Light

I spent last week in northern Minnesota and also along the north shore of Lake Superior. On this day we had some light snow showers and rain but also a break with some nice light once in awhile. This picture was made in a fairly remote area that I was really enjoying spending time in. Thanks for any thoughts you may have. Larger version included for a better look.

The yellows in the distance are very appealing, and the stream (?) takes my eye right to them. Well composed.

Beautiful scene Nick. Very serene. I too would enjoy spending some time there.

Nice peaceful scene, Nick. The sky is a bit bright, but I don't know how much you could do without it looking weird. I like Autumn color and light in the stream. Nicely done.

I also like the light on the meadow and the comp.
A better sky would have been nice, but we work with what we have......

Beautiful subtle light and color Nick, it reminds me of the wet land in the Adirondacks, and it definitely carries an autumn mood. I Like this alot, well done.

Strong composition Nick and I like the colors throughout. I might bring the highlights in the sky down a touch but no big deal either way. Beautiful image and mood.

Thanks to all of you for your comments. I did a version with the highlights brought down some in the sky. I thought the sky had the feel and look of while I was there but this version might work better overall. I really appreciate your suggestions on this! Thanks much, Nick

Nick, I really like the color and depth of this image. The stream makes a nice leading line. You captured the peace and feeling of the north very well.

Looks like a wonderful place to explore, Nick. The larger version really puts me right there and ready to go. The glow in the grasses and the leading line of the creek are very inviting. You've got good detail in the sky also. Fine use of a cloudy day. The subtle darkening of the sky in the repost works well.

Nick,

You always seem to have a beautifully composed image, and this one is another example of great comp! I love the tranquility and feel to this image. Beautifully seen and captured.

On a side note,

I am headed up to door county this weekend, and would like to ask you if you have any spots out that way. I will be emailing if you do not mind.

Hi Ryan, Thanks so much! Please feel free to email me anytime. I'm doing a 3 day photography show this Friday, Saturday and Sunday a few miles south of Spring Green, WI on Hwy 23. If you go through that area stop by for a few minutes. Nick

What a wonderful atmosphere, Nick! You make me feel like standing in the middle of the scene breathing the autumn air. One of my top favorites from your gallery.

The repost with a bit more detail in the sky works perfectly, Nick. The overcast lighting showcases all the details and textures in this scene and the diagonal placement of the water adds some visual tension to the image. Beautifully done.

Nice tranquil scene, Nick, I do like the repost with the darker sky and think that you could even go a bit darker and still keep it realistic looking.

Hi Zack, Thanks! I will work on darkening the sky a bit more and see how it works out. I did do a large print of this and it looks really nice to me. Just getting ready to order the mats and frame for it now. Cheers, Nick
