This is our Cairn Terrier, Yogi. We had a field next to our house in Colorado Springs and as the grass grew in the summer Yogi would have to start bounding over it while chasing his big brother Billy, a much faster collie mix. I was lucky enough to catch him mid-air. Any critiques would be greatly appreciated as I usually don't shoot things that move so fast.

For some reason I don't have the original file with the jpeg so I don't have the specs on iso/shutter speed although I'm pretty sure I at f2.8 with my Canon 5DII and 70-200L lens @ 200mm

Ah, gorgeous. The first thing that hits me when I look at this is that the dog is having FUN. So anyone who knows and loves dogs views your image and smiles. The muted colors of environment let all the emphasis here be on Yogi. Nicely timed action shot, and we can clearly see that he has to make leaps to move across the grass that's almost as tall as he is. Go, Yogi, go!

Now, that's some intensity! Great stop-action shot, here, Scott. Beautifully done!

Great action shot Scott. I think you nailed the biggest part about action shots by throwing your aperture to f/2.8 and maximizing your shutter speed. Also looks as if you may have been panning slightly with the subject too!

Yogi's sense of fun is infectious, makes me smile

Perfect timing for a great action shot, Scott! You even got him in the right place in the frame. It's always fun to see a dog having fun

Scott, I like the action and sharpness on Yogi and how that's set against the softness of the surroundings. Your use of a gentle vignette works very well here. I like the warmth, joy, and action as presented, but could also see a tighter crop, taking a bit off the left and some from the bottom as an alternative.

That, is adorable, Scott! Very sweet dog and you sure nailed the timing to capture the fun-loving, playful character Yogi seems to have! Nice one!

Very nice. These terriers are like wind up toys---they go with full power until they are out of energy. I like the air-born action shot....................Jim
