Tjie,
How do you pronounce this?
What a remarkable looking bird, very well captured.
On my monitor the background looks a tad noisy

I call this the Western Cardinal... I hope to be able to photograph one some day! The image is wonderful. I like the color contrast and the details.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for your comment. It is pronounced pyr-rhu-lox-i-a . I know it is hard to pronounce. They are related to the Cardinal and can be found in the Southwest USA ( AZ, NM, TX ) and Mexico.

I would love to see and photograph these someday, very cool bird. The framing of the tree is complimentary and the leaves in front of the bird don't bother me at all. Great details and background. I'm curious...do you have regular Cardinals there also? Great shot!
I just noticed in the large image that there is a "stick" that must be cloned out of smaller image. Just say'in!

Thanks for your comment Steve. I live in CA, but I was vacationing in Southeastern AZ last July. Yes you can find N Cardinals, Pyrrhuloxias and many Mexican specialties there. It is a wonderful place to watch and to photograph birds.

Great image of this desert cardinal, Tjie. The image is very well composed. I really like the contrasting colors and the foreground branch. Great use of flash.

Sweet One Tjie Nice pose with excellent details, flash work is excellent too.. I like the way his perch runs diagonally through the frame. A pleasing composition.

One of my favorite bids to photograph. Good colors and placement in the frame.
