Good catch John. New camera and lens? Don't recall it from the past but sometimes I miss things like that. Froze the action fairly well given your shutter speed. And I agree it's special to see one actually on flowers. Nice mix of color and your comp is quite nice, too. I wonder if a little bit more ISO would give you a bit more DOF to sharpen some of the soft parts of the bird and maybe enough to up the SS a bit. But I'm guessing you didn't have a lot of time to plan things real well. Nevertheless a fun shot.

John, I like the bird and flower combination of colour. The BG for me is a little distracting because it is broken into large shapes of varying colour. One way to fix that would be to layer mask and darken the BG. Just missed this one on sharpness too...but 70% sharp on bird.
Ok...I had some time to kill at work...nobody was looking...I made a copy and did the changes I suggested..to show you. Background masked and darkened. Selective sharpening on bird and increased contrast on bird as well. Again this are just my suggestions to frame your subject and bring it forward....maybe it works for you maybe it doesn't....I had fun either way...
